Queensland Government confirms a 500,000 AUD donation to the earthquake-hit region in Sichuan

      On May 23, 2008, Queensland Premier, Ms Anna Bligh, wrote letters to Chinese Ambassador Zhang Junsai and Chinese Consul General Ren Gongping respectively, on behalf of the Queensland Government, iterating a 500-thousand-Australian-dollar emergency service and financial assistance fund to the earthquake-hit Region in Sichuan Province, People's Republic of China. The fund will be donated through Red Cross Australia and the international Federation of the Red Cross to the Red Cross of China. The fund will assist with emergency provisions such as tents, blankets, jerry cans and water purification tablets, as well as emergency Red Cross medical teams and essential medical supplies. Consul General Ren Gongping immediately made a phone call to the Premier's Office, on behalf of Chinese Ambassador Zhang Junsai and Chinese people in Sichuan Earthquake-hit region, to express their sincere thanks to Premier Ms Bligh, Queensland Government and people.
