Mr. Steve Abbott, President of Australia China Business Council (ACBC),
Hon. Cameron Dick, Minister for State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning,
Hon. Stirling Hinchliffe, Minister for Local Government, Minister for Racing and Minister for Multicultural Affairs,
Mr. John-Paul Langbroek, MP,
Cr. Graham Quirk, Lord Mayor of Brisbane,
Mr. Derek Brown, Mr. Michael Choi, Mr. Shelden Brady, and many other friends,
Ladies and Gentlemen,

Good evening!

Firstly, on behalf of the Consulate-General of China, I'd like to take this opportunity to extend our sincere sympathy and best wishes to the flood-affected people in Northern Queensland.

Tonight we are gathered here to celebrate the Chinese New Year. I'd like to thank ACBC Queensland for organizing such a wonderful reception. And I also wish to thank ACBC and all guests present here for your efforts and contributions to boosting the friendly and fruitful relations between China and Queensland.

As we know, for Queensland, China is the largest trade partner and largest source of international students and visitors. For instance, in 2017-18, Queensland's merchandise export to China reached 22.4 billion dollars, accounting for 30.3% of Queensland's total merchandise export and 21.3% of Australia's total merchandise export to China. With the stable economic growth of China and rising number of middle-class, the economic cooperation between China and Queensland will surely be closer and more productive.

This year marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. We will stick to the policy of deepening reform and opening up. We will hold the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation and the second China International Import Expo (CIIE), further sharing development opportunities with the rest of the world.

Last November, a trade delegation led by Premier Palaszczuk participated in the first CIIE held in Shanghai and have achieved remarkable results. Products of Queensland including beef, honey, pharmaceuticals, fruits are popular among Chinese consumers. On February 28th, the Consulate-General , ACBC Qld and CCCA Qld (China Chamber of Commerce in Australia) will host CIIE Business Forum 2019. We sincerely welcome you to take part in the Expo.

Finally, I wish you and your family a healthy, happy and prosperous Year of the Pig!

Thank you all!
