Deputy Consul-General Mr. Chen Li Met with Deputy Commissioner of Queensland Police Service Bob Gee
On 9th May, Deputy Consul-General Mr. Chen Li met with Bob Gee, Deputy Commissioner of Queensland Police Service (QPS). The two exchanged views on combating phone scams, enhancing safety and security of Chinese community and strengthening cooperation between the Chinese Consulate-General and QPS.
Mr. Chen briefed the recent cases of phone scams, which misappropriated the phone numbers of Chinese Embassies/Consulates, and proposed to cooperate with QPS to further increase the public's awareness against phone scams. Mr. Chen also expressed the wish that QPS work together with Chinese Police to combat the relevant crimes. Given the recent theft and robbery happening to Chinese overseas students and tourists, Mr. Chen restated the concerns of Chinese Consulate-General and urged QPS to take measures to ensure the safety and security of Chinese nationals in Queensland.
Mr. Gee said that the crime rate in Queensland is generally low and the overall situation is safe. Recent cases were not merely targeting Chinese nationals. He said that QPS was very willing to work together with the Consulate-General to strengthen the publicity and cooperation on law enforcement.
Director of Consular Office Mr. Shen Ang; Vice Consul Ms. Wang Mian of Chinese Consulate; Chief Superintendent, District Officer of Brisbane Region Brian Wilkins; Detective Inspector of Centenary Crime Group of South Brisbane District Craig Morrow, and Senior Police Liaison Officer of QPS Ken Rong were also present.
