Remarks by Consul General Dr Xu Jie at the Celebration Dinner for the Launching of Hainan Airlines' Direct Flight between ShenZhen and Brisbane
2017/09/22
(21 September 2017, Brisbane City Council)

Hon. Ms.Kate Jones, Minister for Education and Tourism,
Ms. Adrian Schrinner, Deputy Mayor of Brisbane,
Mr. Sun Jian Feng, President of Hainan Airlines,
Honorable guests, friends, ladies and gentlemen,

Good evening!

It's a delight to join the celebration dinner for the launch of Hainan Airlines' direct flight between ShenZhen and Brisbane. This is the third direct flight between China and Brisbane. It is also Hainan Airlines' 5th direct flight between China and Australia. On behalf of the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Brisbane,I 'd like to extend our warm congratulations again.

The aviation cooperation between China and Australia grows vigorously. And Queensland has always been a proactive participant. This morning we witnessed the inaugural flight between ShenZhen and Brisbane launched by Hainan Airlines. We also have nonstop flight between Guangzhou and Brisbane, and between Shanghai and Brisbane run by other Chinese airlines, and new flights between Guangzhou and Cains, and between ShenZhen and Cains are also to be launched soon.

Presently China-Australia relations is on a fast track. In 2014, Chinese President Xi Jinping paid a state visit to Australia, upgraded our relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership. The official signing and taking effect of China-Australia Free Trade Agreement in  2015, provides a wider platform for our cooperation in various fields especially those of trade and investment. This March, Chinese Premier Li Qeqiang paid an official visit to Australia, input greater impetus for our bilatral relations.

Against the above background, cooperations between China and Queensland have yeilded remarkable outcomes. In the 2016-17 fiscal year, Queensland export of goods to China rised substantialy after declines in previous two fiscal years, which is hard to come by, given the impact of global ecomonic situation and downward pressure on price of commodities. Here are some other datas I would like to share with you. Till the end of 2016, there have been more than 60 Chinese companies investing in Queensland with actual investment stock of 23.2 billion USD, more than 22 thousand Chinese students in universities and schools in Queensland, and last year 485 thousand tourists came to Queensland, with an amount of consumption of over one billion AUD.

I have participated in negotiations on civil aviation agreement between China and relevant countries, and I know well that launching a new flight means a lot to economic and trade cooperation and people to people exchanges.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the establishment of sister city relations between ShenZhen and Brisbane. We hope that this newly launched flight bring the two cities closer and inject new vigor into the cooperation between the two cities and beyond. Once again, I wish Hainan Airlines a great success, and hope you all have a wonderful night.

Thank you all.
