Distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen,
Good afternoon!
It is a delight to partake in the 15th Brisbane Chinese Cultural Festival. On behalf of the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Brisbane, I would like to thank Mainland Chinese Society Queensland for organizing such a wonderful event and wish the festival a full success.
Brisbane Chinese Cultural Festival has been held for 15 times, with themes differing each time. This year's festival features martial art or kongfu in Chinese. Martial art enjoys a long history, and is an extensive and profound system. The great thing about martial art is that it is not merely a physical exercise good for bodybuilding, or a self-defense fighting technique, it,  more importantly, elevates and enriches itself by carrying forward the martial virtues of tolerance and endurance, chivalrous spirits of fortitude, benevolence and righteousness, and its philosophy of being modest, respectful and cautious and pursuing harmonious coexistence. All altogether make it magnificent treasure of traditional Chinese culture.
Here today I especially want to thank Mainland Chinese Society Queensland for presenting the colorful Chinese culture to both Chinese in Queensland and Australians for 15 years. That, I believe, really takes the spirit of tenacity in martial art. And each time they chose as the theme the most attractive parts of Chinese culture, and proceeded with careful planning and designing. I also wish to thank all Kongfu masters who will perform later and all volunteers participating in this work today. Your performance and efforts will enrich Australian multiculturalism and at the same time, open a window for those Australian friends who wish to know China and Chinese culture better, hence further promote friendship between our two peoples.
In this new era, Chinese Consulate General in Brisbane will work with governments of all levels in Queensland and all friends who support China-Australia, China-Queensland friendship and cooperation, to make new contributions in promoting exchanges and cooperation between our two countries in culture, economy, education, technology and all other fields.
Thank you and hope you all enjoy the show.
