Remarks by Consul General Dr. Xu Jie on the Occasion of Celebrating the Installation of the Wealth Paifang in Gold Coast Chinatown
 (2nd March, 2018)

Honorable Mayor Tom Tate,
Councilors, Members of Chinatown Committee for Southport,
Members of Chinese community,
Ladies and gentlemen,

Good morning!

It is my great pleasure to partake in this dedication ceremony, in honor of the installation of the Wealth Paifang in Gold Coast Chinatown. On behalf of the Chinese Consulate-General, I would like to extend our warmest congratulations!

This is the third Paifang in Chinatown. All these Paifangs are co-designed by City of Gold Coast and her Chinese Friendship cities, and are permanent symbols of the connection, cooperation and friendship between these Chinese cities and Gold Coast. They may also be regarded as, if I may say, acknowledgment  and  welcome to Chinese community and Chinese culture, and showing of our faith in further development of our fruitful relations. We highly appreciate all your efforts.

As far as I know, City of Gold Coast has established friendship relations or signed MOU of this kind with several Chinese cities, such as Chengdu, Wuhan, Zhuhai, Beihai and Sanya. We will continue to encourage more Chinese cities to develop relations with Gold Coast ,and hope these cities and Gold Coast make the most of the relations and strengthen our cooperation in economy and trade, tourism, education, sports and all other fields, so that it may benefit more people of both sides.

The overseas Chinese in Australia are diligent and dedicated, and have made important contributions to the local economy and society, and the development of multiculturalism. They also play an important role of bridge linking China and Australia, Gold Coast and many Chinese cities. So we also want to express our thanks to you.

This year is the year of the dog in Chinese lunar calendar. And I wish every one of you and your family healthy, happy and all the best in the year of the dog. Thank you.
