Address by Consul General Dr. Xu Jie at Welcome Luncheon of Australia China Friendship Society
President Gwyther, members of the Society,
Good morning!
It is a great pleasure for me, my wife and my colleagues to join you at this luncheon. I'd like to thank you for your kind invitation and hospitality.
The Australia China Friendship Society, as a non-governmental organization launched prior to the establishment of  China and Australia diplomatic relations, has made great contribution to  China and Austalia relations, and facilitating friendly exchanges and mutual understanding between our two peoples. I know that all presidents and members of the Society have some connections to and deep feelings for China. You are all participants in and witnesses to the development of China-Australia, China-Queensland relations.
The Consulate General in Brisbane has maintained good relations with the Society. On such important occasions as the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Australia and the 70th anniversary of the founding of the communist party of China (CPC), the Consulate-General and the Society have jointly held various celebrations and commemorative activities. The healthy and sustainable development of China-Australia relations is inseparable from the care and support of the Australian non-governmental organizations such as the Society. As the new Consul General, I hope that today is not only the beginning of the friendship between us personally, but also the continuation of the friendship between the Consulate General and the Society. The Consulate General is willing to continue to work with the Society to further advance China-Australia, China-Queensland relations.
In China, people just celebrated the spring festival which marks the beginning of the new year, I wish you all and your family healthy, happy and all the best. Happy New Year!
Thank you!
