Members of the Cabinet, Members of the Parliament,
Representatives from Chinese Community,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Good evening!
We know that the Premier has just returned from the front line of the flood-affected area of Northern Queensland. While  concerned about the flood victims, the Premier does not forget the Chinese Community in Queensland. On behalf of the Chinese Consulate General in Brisbane, I would like to express our sincere thanks to the Premier for taking the time to host such a wonderful reception. I would also like to take this opportunity to send my sincere sympathy and best wishes to the flood-affected people of Northern Queensland.
Last March, also on this Speaker's Green, we attended the Chinese New Year reception hosted by the Premier. It was my first time to attend the reception of this kind, as if it were yesterday.
How time flies! Over the past year, both China and Queensland have made gratifying achievements in development. China's social undertakings have been accelerated, economy developed steadily, people's living standards have been continuously improved. Chinese people are confident that we are moving towards the goal of building a well-off society in an all-round way. Economy and society of Queensland develop continuously, and multiculturalism has yielded fruitful results.
Over the past year, China-Queensland relations have maintained a momentum of healthy and stable development . The Governor of Queensland, the Premier and Chief Justice have made successful visits to China, demonstrating the great importance attached to developing relations with China by all walks of life in Queensland. New achievements have been made in bilateral exchanges and practical cooperation in economy and trade, science and technology, education, tourism and people to people exchanges.
2019 marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. China will stick to the policy of deepening reform and opening up. We will hold the second 'Belt and Road' International Cooperation Forum and the second China International Import Expo, further share China's development opportunities with the world. This year will also see the 30th anniversary of the establishment of friendly relations between Shanghai and Queensland. We expect that both sides take this opportunity to deepen our practical cooperation and promote China-Queensland friendship.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Chinese New Year is the most popular, lively and important traditional festival for Chinese people. Various activities and unique celebrations have been held in Queensland in this festive season. Last weekend, 48 Chinese communities jointly held the 8th Brisbane China Festival. Other ethnic groups also took an active part in celebrating the Chinese New Year. H.E. Ambassador Cheng Jingye came a long way from Canberra to attend the event. It is unprecedented in scale and rich in content. It fills Brisbane with a festival atmosphere of joy, demonstrates the unique charm of Chinese culture, and embodies the spirit of unity and harmony, positive and upward outlook of the Chinese Community. Here I would like to extend my appreciation to the Queensland Government and Brisbane City Council and all other sectors for your strong support to the activities of Chinese Community. I believe that with your support and participation, Chinese Community in Queensland will develop better and make greater contributions to the economic and social development and multiculturalism of Queensland.
As conclusion, I wish you and your family healthy, happy and a prosperous year of the pig!
Thank you!
