Good evening!
It's a great delight to have you with us tonight to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. On behalf of the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Brisbane, I would like to extend our warm welcome to you all, and send my sincere gratitude to those who have dedicated themselves to the China-Australia, China Queensland friendship. I would also like to thank the two children and the chorus for your affectionate singing. On this special occasion, singing this song together is heartening and fully expresses our best wishes for our great motherland.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
For the past 70 years, under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, and with the unity and untiring efforts of Chinese people, China has undergone enormous changes and made remarkable achievements in various undertakings.
For the past 70 years, China has developed from a backward agricultural country into the world's second largest economy, the largest industrial country and the largest trader of goods. China has rapidly developed its infrastructure and made great progress in science and technology. High-speed rail, e-commerce and mobile payment are becoming new symbols of China. Cutting-edge technologies like big data, cloud computing and artificial intelligence are advancing quickly. Extraordinary achievements have been made in manned space flight, lunar exploration program, Beidou Navigation Satellite System, deep-sea exploration and quantum science, etc. China ranks the first around the world in the number of researchers and patent applications. The living standard of Chinese people has improved greatly. 740 million people have shaken off poverty. 400 million people have reached middle income class. China has established the world's largest social security system, with the basic aged-care insurance and medical insurance system covering more than 900 million and 1.3 billion people respectively.
For the past 70 years, China's relation with the rest of the world has undergone historical changes, and has made significant contributions to the global prosperity and stability. Proactively participating in the process of globalization, China has become the largest trade partner with more than 130 countries and regions, and has become an anchor and driver for world economy with its contribution of over 30% to the global growth for many years. China keeps promoting the Belt and Road Initiative, providing new opportunities for all countries' development. Taking the lead to sign and ratify the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, China is earnestly fulfilling its obligations to the agreement. With the commitment fostering a new type of international relations and a community with a shared future for mankind, China has contributed its wisdom to global governance, shouldering responsibility as a major country.
Ladies and gentlemen,
China's achievements show that the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics suits to its national reality and is in response to the needs of the times. To seek happiness for the people and rejuvenation for the nation is our unswerving aspiration. Next year, China will accomplish the building of a moderately prosperous society in all respects and eradicate absolute poverty as a whole, becoming the first developing country to achieve UN Millennium Development Goal on poverty reduction. Starting from next year to 2035, with 15 years of hard work, we will see that socialist modernization is basically realized. On this basis, for another 15 years by the middle of this century, China will have built itself into a great modern socialist country and realized the Chinese dream of the great rejuvenation.
China's experience demonstrates that reform and opening-up is the only path to the progress of contemporary China. On many occasions, President Xi Jinping has made solemn commitments to the world that our reform will not stop and our door will only open wider. China will actively broaden market access, expand imports and improve business environment; continue to advance the Belt & Road Initiative through joint building for an open international platform of cooperation around the world; continue to ensure success of China International Import Expo(CIIE), build new platforms for all participants to cooperate and explore Chinese market.
China's development proves that adhering to the path of peaceful development is a strategic choice that conforms to the trend of the times and fundamental interests of China. China will unswervingly follow the path of peaceful development, stand steady as a builder of world peace, a contributor to global development and defender of the international order. China will develop itself through striving for a peaceful international environment, herewith safeguard and promote world peace through its development.
Ladies and gentlemen,
This year marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and the 47th anniversary of China-Australia diplomatic relations. Both are major countries in the Asia-Pacific region. A sound and stable relationship is in the fundamental interests of the two countries and peoples. We hope that both countries pull efforts in the same direction so as to push forward the relationship along the right track.
China-Queensland relations are an important part of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between China and Australia. Over the years, with the joint efforts of both sides, China-Queensland relations have maintained a good momentum. Practical cooperation in the fields of economy and trade, science and technology, education, tourism and others has deepened continuously. Subnational and people-to-people exchanges have become increasingly active. China has become Queensland's largest trading partner for many years, taking up one third of Queensland exports market and a source of more than one quarter of the international students in Queensland. The complementary and mutually beneficial relations between China and Queensland have great potentials and a brighter future.
I have been in Queensland for more than two years and felt deeply that governments at all levels and all sectors of the society in Queensland attach great importance to developing relations with China. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the friendly relations between Shanghai and Queensland. With the joint efforts of Premier Palaszczuk and the leaders of Shanghai government, the sister state exchanges and cooperation have made new progress. Queensland's delegation is visiting Shanghai, which is bound to further strengthen the exchanges and cooperation between the two sides in economic and trade, parliament, science and technology, humanities and other fields. Wish the visit a complete success! I'm convinced that with the joint efforts of both sides, China and Queensland will make even greater achievements in mutual exchanges, cooperation and friendship.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
The great achievements made by the People's Republic of China are the result of the common efforts of all Chinese people, including overseas Chinese. For a long time, Chinese in Queensland have adhered to the Chinese traditional virtues of diligence and kindness, made important contributions to the economic and social development of Queensland, and played a unique role in promoting China-Australia and China-Queensland relations. It is our hope that the Chinese community in Queensland will continue to follow and support the modernization of China and continue to play the role of bridge and tie between China and Australia and that of China and Queensland.
To conclude, I'd like to invite you all to join me in wishing China thriving prosperity, Chinese people happiness and well-being, China-Australia and China-Queensland relations greater achievements. And my same best wishes to you all and your families. Thank you!
